Loved Howay? Bring it to your year team.
Howay spreads the way good classroom practice always has — one teacher shows another. There is no rollout to wait for and no procurement to survive first. If it is working for your class, here is how to get it working for the rest of your year group.
Whole-school accounts are not open yet. Howay is direct-to-teacher today: teachers sign up themselves and use it with their own classes. Leadership dashboards and cross-school reporting are on the roadmap, not in the product — so this page is for the teachers who already have it and want their colleagues to have it too.
How teachers bring Howay to their year team
Three steps, in the order that actually works. Nothing before step three needs procurement, a budget line, or a signature.
- 1
Show one piece of feedback, not a pitch
Take a single piece of Howay feedback on a book from your own class to the next year-group meeting. Colleagues do not need a demo; they need to see what it said about a child they know, on handwriting they recognise. That is the whole pitch.
- 2
Get your year team signed up
No purchase order, no IT ticket, no whole-school rollout. Any teacher can sign up directly, and every account starts with 30 days of full Pro access — no card required. A year team can be up and running before the end of the week.
- 3
When the year group becomes the school, tell us
Schoolwide and multi-academy trust pricing is on the roadmap, not open yet. If several of you want it, say so. The schools whose teachers are already asking are the ones we go to first.
What to send your head
If a colleague escalates it — or you would rather get ahead of the questions — these are the things a head or data protection officer reliably asks for, already written.
AI policy template
A free, editable AI policy for primary schools: approved and prohibited uses, a DPIA checklist, and a statutory writing-assessment annex.
Is AI marking safe?
What happens to pupil work, how long it is kept, and how Howay answers the data-protection questions your DPO will raise.
Privacy policy
What we collect, how long we keep it, who processes it, and how to ask for it to be deleted.
Pricing
What an individual teacher pays, what the 30-day trial covers, and how heads and MAT leads join the waitlist for schoolwide pricing.
Questions colleagues ask
Can I use Howay without my school buying it?
Yes. Howay is direct-to-teacher: any teacher can sign up and use it with their own classes without procurement, a purchase order, or a whole-school rollout. Every account starts with 30 days of full Pro access and no card is required to begin. Nothing needs senior-leadership sign-off before you start.
Is there a whole-school account yet?
Not yet, and we would rather say so than sell you something that does not exist. Shared leadership dashboards, cross-class reporting, and schoolwide and multi-academy trust pricing are all on the roadmap rather than in the product today. Heads, deputies and MAT leads can join the waitlist through our contact form to hear first — and the schools whose teachers are already asking are the ones we go to first.
What will my head ask for before approving it?
In our experience: a data protection impact assessment, wording for the school's privacy notice, and a clear answer on where pupils' work goes. Our free AI policy template for primary schools covers all three, including a DPIA checklist, and it is written to be edited rather than adopted wholesale. Our privacy policy and our page on whether AI marking is safe answer the rest.
Does using Howay affect KS2 writing moderation?
Howay works on completed writing: the teacher photographs the finished page, the AI drafts feedback for the teacher, and the teacher edits and delivers it. The pupil's page is untouched, so the piece itself remains exactly as the pupil produced it — the Standards and Testing Agency's rule that AI-produced writing must never be used to reach a teacher assessment judgement is not in play. The rule to respect is what happens afterwards: if a pupil redrafts a piece following that feedback, the redraft is not independent evidence, so keep originals in the moderation collection, flag where AI feedback was used, and let next steps feed forward into the next piece of writing instead. Worth saying out loud when you raise it with colleagues.
